At part of its ‘ease of doing business’ exercise, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government plans to reduce the time taken for clearances required by chartered planes flying into the country.
Chartered flights currently require three working days to get the necessary clearances and permissions.
This comes at a time when the international traffic has been keeping pace with India’s domestic air traffic which grew 26% in July. Foreign airlines carry almost twice as much passengers compared with Indian airlines with overseas operations.
A senior civil aviation ministry official, requesting anonymity, said discussion with the Directorate General of India (DGCA) in this regard is ongoing and the aviation regulator is also digitising its processes to ensure faster clearances.
“DGCA is moving online and that would also help in reducing clearance time,” added the official. DGCA for the first time in May started online services including issue and renewal of pilot licences, and customer grievances, among others.
