Chennai man seeks Rs 11 lakh relief from Etihad

Chennai: A resident of Chennai has moved the district consumer forum seeking a compensation of Rs 11 lakh from Etihad airways for deficiency in services.
Sujit Kumar from Velachery, had booked an online ticket for his family with the airlines from Chennai to Abu Dhabi and from there to Zurich on May 13, 2015 by paying around Rs 2.14 lakh. When Kumar went to Chennai international airport, he was informed that the fight was re-scheduled to 1am the next day.
The airlines put him on a route via Rome, instead of a more convenient route via Geneva, he added.
While returning from Zurich on May 24, Kumar along with other passengers were asked to board the flight an hour before departure. The airlines then switched off the air conditioning, causing suffocation and nausea to the passengers, he said.
Etihad offered a partial refund along with free guest miles. In its defence, the airlines said the incoming flight to Chennai was delayed because of technical reasons, which was beyond their control.
