Gold worth Rs 4cr seized at airport

New Delhi: The customs department at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Friday arrested two men, including a foreign national, for allegedly trying to smuggle gold worth Rs 4 crore into the country. According to Customs officials, the duo landed by Malindo Air flight OD-205 from Kuala Lumpur around 9.30pm. The two men were intercepted at the Green channel and were requested to cooperate for a detailed search.
"We found the duo hiding 15 gold bars in the baggage trolley. Both were taken into custody and the gold bars seized. The estimated value of the seized gold is Rs 4.67 crore," said Karan Thapar, deputy commissioner (Customs).
During interrogation, it was revealed that the foreign national was from Malaysia, while the Indian accused hailed from Punjab.
