Passengers stranded as AI’s Airbus bound to Delhi grounded at Surat airport

Surat: At least 145 passengers bound to New Delhi were stranded at the Surat airport after the Air India's (AI) Airbus-490 was grounded due to the engine failure on late Monday night.
The Airbus, which was scheduled to depart at 8:00 pm on Monday, was cancelled at around 11:45 pm. The passengers entered into heated arguments with the AI ground staff.
The passenger took the AI's ground staff, including its area manager, to task for not giving proper information on the flight's status. Even as the aircraft was grounded due to engine failure, the flight was cancelled late at night.
The AI arranged road travel for some of the passengers towards Ahmedabad and Mumbai, while others were given hotel accommodation.
In the last seven months, around 10 such incidents have occurred where the AI has cancelled the flights due to technical reasons. In most of the incidents, the flights have been delayed for more than three hours, creating problems for the passengers.
