Airport gets perishable cargo facility

Bengaluru: India's first integrated on-airport perishable cargo-handling centre has begun trial operations at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) here.
The Air India SATA Coolport, an initiative of Air India SATS Airport Services Private Limited, is spread across 11,000 sqm. "The facility will meet the increasing demand and handling requirements of temperature-sensitive cargo and will further enhance Karnataka's status as the country's pharmaceutical and perishables hub," a release issued here said.
In recent years, Bengaluru has witnessed a steady increase in perishable cargo volume. With a capacity of handling 40,000 tonnes of cargo per annum, the facility will cater to an extensive range of perishable commodities -- pharmaceutical products, fruits, vegetables, poultry, seafood and flowers.
It is customized to offer comprehensive cold storage solutions, with 17 dedicated cold rooms with adjustable temperatures ranging from -25°C to 25°C.
