Gaya: The Gaya airport will remain closed from Tuesday till November 23 to facilitate repair and recarpeting of the runway. Thereafter, it will be open for landing and take-off purposes only for nine hours beginning 6 in the morning, said Gaya airport director Dilip Kumar.
The uneven surface and ditches at several points on the runway had made landing and take-off of aircraft risky. On Saturday, too, the airport had to be closed for more than three hours to repair the runway as its sizeable portion developed cracks. Sources say minor repair work had to be done several times in the past as the runway suffered damages during take-off.
