Security at IGI airport has been beefed up considering the festive season rush and tension at the Indo-Pak border. An advisory has been issued for flyers to arrive at the international and domestic terminals well before time for their flights as check-in procedures are likely to take more time than usual.
Intelligence agencies have also alerted Delhi Police and CISF about the security threat and asked them to maintain a tight vigil at the airport and the approach roads. Senior CISF officers said more armed personnel have been deployment at the approach roads and additional barricades have been put up to stop vehicles.
Sources said that intelligence agencies have warned of a possible terror attack at airports in four border states — Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab and J&K — apart from Delhi. The four states have been sent detailed instructions to implement high security measures.
Senior police and CISF officers held a meeting on Wednesday to discuss their preparedness. Sources said securitymen in plainclothes have been deployed inside both the international and domestic terminals. Random anti-sabotage checks by the bomb detection and disposal teams and dog squads are being carried out to keep the perimeter secure.
