Stranded inside aircraft, flyers fret

Hundreds of flyers were left stranded at Indira Gandhi International Airport after a glitch was reported in the automation system of the Air Traffic Control following which operations at the airport had to be put on hold. Officers say that it took the technicians over four hours to deal with the technical failure. Nearby airports were also directed to hold the departures for Delhi for the time.
According to the airlines, the backlog created by the glitch led to delays of about an hour in almost all take-offs from the airport on Tuesday evening. Several flights were delayed leading to chaos at both domestic and international departures.
Rajeev Singh, a government official, who was travelling from Delhi to Kolkata, said that their boarding was announced by IndiGo and they were informed about the glitch later. This led to them sitting in the aircraft for more than an hour, causing anxiety and discomfort.
