Youth apprehended with gold at airport, released

Jaipur: Customs seized 486 grams of gold from a New Delhi resident during frisking at Jaipur international airport on Sunday evening.
Mohammad Nazir was flying from Oman to New Delhi via Jaipur when customs official found gold studded buttons on his shirt and jeans during frisking. "The inspectors alerted higher officials about a passenger smuggling gold. Nazir then, was intently examined by custom inspectors. Our team recovered a nugget size gold biscuit which he had hidden in his rectum. A box of cigarette packets worth Rs 1 lakh was also seized," said a custom official.
According to officials, Nazir is working at a firm in Oman, and is a frequent flyer to India. "Our database showed that Nazir flown to India from Oman about 25 times in the span of two years. Last time he had taken an international flight from Oman to New Delhi via Lucknow. It was for the first time that he landed in Jaipur," the official added.
A senior custom official said that one of their inspectors had been observing the shimmering buttons of Nazir. "Nazir looked weary and tense, he was tightly holding onto his bag and seen making several trips to washroom at the airport where he made last minute attempts to hide gold," the official added.
