‘Government has frozen development around Mopa’

Panaji: Residents of outlying villages around Mopa airport site gathered on Barazan plateau on Sunday to condemn the government's anti-people and anti-development attitude for private profits at the cost of life and livelihoods of citizens and future generations.
Protestors from Varconda, Casarvanem, Chandel, Amberem, Uguem and Mopa in Pernem taluka shouted slogans against the project.
Despite assurances of bringing development to Pernem taluka through the airport at Mopa, Mopa Vimantal Piddit Xetkari Samiti (MVPXS) secretary Sandip Kambli alleged that the government has secretly approved the freeze of development within 5 km radius around the plateau.
"This includes a lot of area out of six villages and almost half of Pernem residents will not be able to construct even a room for themselves in future," Kambli said.
