Indian airports to get full-body scanners

The Economic Times reports that one device will initially be launched at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport by the end of this month. Full-body scanners had previously been resisted in India due to concerns over privacy, but officials said that their introduction was being taken for “security and counter-terror measures”.

Officials have moved to reassure the public about the scanners, stressing that the devices do not produce images of exact body contours, but instead only undertake a “targeted search” for concealed prohibited items.
