T2 bets on food delivery to regain lost footfalls

The long walk from the food court to the departure gates and an even longer wait for their order to be delivered has played villain to food outlets operating from the Mumbai airport’s integrated terminal T2, which is a no-announcement zone, for some time now.

But no more as the Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) has introduced personalised food delivery using Segways –a two-wheeled, self-balancing, battery-powered electric vehicle – to reach customers.

“Customers at these outlets no longer have to wait at the food court for their food. They can move onto the departure zones where our staff will reach them,” said a spokesperson for MIAL.

The airport operator has purchased five Segways, three of which are stationed at the international departure area and two at the domestic departure zone.

“Currently, food joints like Subway, Burger King, Baker Street, KFC and Pizza Hut Delivery are utilizing the Segways to reach their customers,” the airport spokesperson added.
