AAIB to probe helicopter crash even as DGCA rushes to Aarey colony

Apex aircraft investigation body, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), will probe the helicopter crash in Goregaon in which a pilot lost his life and three others suffered serious injuries.Aviation regulator DGCA has already started collecting evidence from the crash site which would help the AAIB in its probe, a senior official said. "The DGCA officials are already at the crash site to collect evidence for probe. Since prima facie it's an accident, the AAIB will be conducting a probe. We are sending a team of investigators to Mumbai on Monday to start the probe," a senior AAIB official said in Delhi.

The official said that the AAIB is expected complete its preliminary investigation in a week's time. The helicopter crashed in an open ground at Aarey Colony, and the pilot, Prafulla Mishra, showed great presence of mind to ensure people playing at the ground, and the nearby shanties were not hit.
