B C H Negi: Rescue team reacted swiftly, passengers lying

The airport director at the Goa International airport, Dabolim, B C H Negi, has denied allegations that they did not respond quickly after the Mumbai-bound Jet Airways aircraft skidded off the runway, in wee hours of Tuesday morning.
Negi said several Indian Navy personnel rushed to the site, though it took them some time to locate the aircraft in the dark. The accident site didn't have a motorable road, but the emergency team reached the site as quickly as it could and the response was faster as Dabolim is a Navy airport, Negi added.
There were 154 passengers and seven crew members aboard when the Boeing 737 aircraft veered off the runway while taking off. Around 15 passengers were injured in the accident.
"I was at the accident site at 5.30am. The injured passengers were attended to on priority and moved to safety," said Negi, adding that passengers are lying about emergency help being delayed.
"All standard operating procedures were followed. The response of the Indian Navy was commendable," Negi said.
Negi pointed out that the runway was shut down after the incident, but it was cleared for operations after 9.30am. Some airlines deferred their departure schedule, assuming the runway wouldn't be operational within such a short span of time.
