BECIL bags Rs 110 cr contract for biometric system at airports

Public sector firm BECIL has baggged more than Rs 110 crore worth contract from Airports Authority of India (AAI) for providing biometric access control system at 43 aerodromes.

As part of efforts to strengthen the overall security framework at airports amid rising threat perception for the aviation sector, AAI is putting in such access control systems at the airports.

Sources said the Biometric Access Control System (BACS) are to be installed at around 48 airports, including those operated by joint ventures.

AAI manages 125 airports, including 11 international and 81 domestic aerodromes. Five airports -- at Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Nagpur -- are run by joint ventures.
