Centre gives promise on Karipur airport

Malappuram: Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has assured Sunni leader Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliar that he would take the initiative to clear hurdles to the smooth functioning of Karipur airport. A delegation led by Kanthapuram met Mr. Naqvi in New Delhi recently and presented a memorandum seeking his intervention to restore wide-bodied aircraft services at Karipur. Following the cancellation of services at Karipur, Haj services were shifted to the Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery.

Quoting the Minister, Mr. Kanthapuram said Mr. Naqvi had assured them that he would take the initiative to solve the issue with the help of the Union Minister for Civil Aviation. He told Kanthapuram that the airport was more important for the State than the issue of Haj subsidy.

Mr. Naqvi told Kanthapuram that the Union government had not taken any decision to implement the Uniform Civil Code. As it required constitutional amendment, no change would be made without considering the opinion of the people, he said. Kanthapuram was accompanied by former Haj Committee chairman A.K. Abdul Hameed, Kerala Haj Welfare Association vice chairman Tharayittal Hasan Saqafi, and V.T. Abdullakoya of Indo-Arab Conference
