Customs seizes Turkish currency at Chennai airport

Chennai: Custom officials seized a huge tranche of Turkish currency notes from a postal parcel at Chennai Airport on Wednesday.

Ranjan Routray, Principal Commissioner of Customs, Chennai Airport and Foreign Post Office, said that during a routine inspection, customs staff found a parcel, which had arrived from China, to be suspicious and on opening it found Turkish currency stacked in plastic covers. The seized currency was valued at Rs. 62 crore in Indian rupee.
