Goa airport reopens, Jet pilot derostered

Panaji: Following a detailed inspection, authorities have allowed flight operations to resume at Goa International Airport. An early morning mishap involving a Jet Airways flight had prompted naval officials and Airports Authority of India to shut down the runway as a precautionary safety measure.
A Jet Airways flight with 161 people on board veered off the runway at 5:30 in the morning at Goa International airport while aligning for takeoff.
Around 15 passengers suffered bruises and fractures during evacuation and the runway was partially damaged prompting Naval and airports authority of India authorities to shut down the airport for nearly five hours.
After a thorough inspection and some minor repairs, the runway was cleared for flight operations, airport director B. C. H. Negi said.
Jet Airways Flight 9W 2374, which had arrived at Goa from Dubai, was enroute to Mumbai. The commander of the aircraft had taxied to the end of the runway after the air traffic control had given clearance for take-off. Representatives of Jet Airways said that a "technical glitch" led to the aircraft skidding off the runway.
