Rs 25 lakh seized from Dubai-bound passenger at Mumbai airport

In a big airport cash haul, new currency worth Rs 25 lakh in Rs 2,000 denomination notes was seized from a Dubai-bound passenger at the city international airport.
Arif Koyante, who was holding an Indian passport, was departing to Dubai by Spicejet flight SG 013 when he was intercepted by the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Customs.
Detailed examination of his check-in baggage resulted in recovery of Rs 25 lakh in denomination of Rs 2000 which was concealed in 52 envelopes.
These 52 envelopes containing currency were further placed inside the layers of 13 cardboards on which readymade garments were neatly wrapped.
The new banknotes were confiscated under the Customs Act, 1962 read with FEMA, 2000.
A case has been registered and the passenger has been arrested.
