Solution in sight for airport land dispute

With the state government considering higher compensation rate for Bishunganj villagers for the 70.2 acres of land required for the expansion of Gaya airport runway from the existing 2,286 metres to 2,886 metres to facilitate the landing and take off of wide-body jumbo planes, the one-and-a-half-decade stalemate on the issue is likely to end.
According to sources, during his Bodh Gaya visit a few days back chief secretary Anjani Kumar Singh directed the district officials to settle the land issue at the earliest and pay compensation as per the new Act, four times the market value as demanded by the landowners.
Gaya DM Kumar Ravi said after the Kalchakra Puja, the airport land issue will be given top priority. "Compensation as per new Act would be given due consideration," he said.
