New Delhi: State-run Airports Authority of India (AAI) on Thursday launched the Central - Air Traffic Flow Management (C-AFTM) system which is expected to enhance fuel savings to the tune of Rs 1680 crore per year besides ensuring superior safety and reduction in operating cost of the airlines while also contributing to the green environment.
AAI in a statement said that the new C-ATFM system will cover the entire Indian airspace and major airports across the country.
Inaugurating the new Air Traffic Services Complex here on Thursday, AAI chairman Dr. Guruprasad Mohapatra said, “India is on the threshold of becoming 7th country in the world to implement the air traffic flow control measures across the nation.”
This, he said will accrue benefits in terms of reduced carbon footprint, embarking on green environment concept, fuel savings and economic benefits to the air travellers.
ATFM will facilitate the display of weather information along with static information about airports, air spaces and air routes, which in turn will enhance safety.
