Finding Kempegowda International Airport's halt-lines

Bangalore: The pitch for a halt station at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) is growing louder as many feel that this will be a boon not just for KIA commuters but also for those working at the country’s third busiest airport. As per a recent survey by a group of people, it is estimated that a halt station underneath the Trumpet Flyover can be constructed for Rs 40 lakh and in a shorter duration!

“While a cab takes close to three hours from Electronics City to reach the airport, a train can complete the journey in about an hour. Apart from picking up passengers from dozens of locations, it can do so even during the peak hours. Added to this, the biggest advantage of a train journey would be skipping three major traffic jams:

Central Silk-Board, KR Puram and Hebbal. Now that the airport may be closed from 10-5 and passengers will need to be there a few hours in advance, they would spend seven hours to take a 35-minute flight till Chennai. Or they can take a Shatabdi for faster service!!! So, we surveyed the area around the railway line near Trumpet interchange and found that the best place for an “Airport Halt” was just below the Trumpet as there was ample space for even buses to cross-over for both arriving & departing passengers. Apart from passengers, we also thought about people working at the airport, as they too don’t seem to have affordable options to reach the airport.

We also found another place for an “Airport Halt” almost one km from the Trumpet that even has a road going under the Trumpet-Airport road,” said Narendra Kumar, member of Citizens for Bengaluru.
