Inadequate space for parking at the Pune International Airport has been a longpending issue. However, the airport authorities claim that the main entrance of the airport is free from traffic bottlenecks. But, in a bid to create more space for parking in the premises, the authorities have now started conducting surveys.
Airport director Ajay Kumar informed, “We are preparing different models to address the parking issue in and outside the airport premises. We are also conducting a survey to figure how many cabs and private vehicles ply to the airport every day. In fact, we are also asking passengers to know how we can improve traffic movement here. They told us that they need more parking area to decongest the road leading to the airport.”
Kumar continued, “A meeting was held with Pune’s divisional commissioner S Chockalingam to discuss the issue. We have asked him to provide more private land for the parking facility. The no-objection certificate (NoC) for a private land near car parking number 2 to Viman Nagar has already been approved. We have also sought an approval to use Puru Society land for the purpose. Chockalingam’s final decision is awaited.”
