After Indian Navy rejection, DRDO says no hope lost on LCA

Weeks after the Indian Navy chief said the LCA-Navy was overweight and that it cannot be used by the force, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has allayed fears of the project becoming redundant even as the navy has floated a request for information (RFI) to procure 56 carrier-borne aircraft in the last week of January.

“When the navy chief (on December 2, 2016) citing overweight issues, it was only about the LCA-Navy MK1. We always knew the plane was overweight, but this was only a technology demonstrator,” Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) chief Cmde CD Balaji (retd) said on Saturday.
