Air India sets up panel to probe if its pilot missed pre-flight breath test

New Delhi: Air India has set up a panel to examine a complaint from a section of its pilots that one of the airline's senior most pilots flew by allegedly evading the mandatory pre-flight breath analyser (BA) tests. These tests are meant to ensure that only perfectly sober pilots fly planes.
"We have received intimation that a senior executive pilot has evaded pre-flight medical test in last 15 days at Delhi Airport. This information has already been submitted to DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) and therefore it is required that this is investigated at the earliest ... a committee of flight safety department officials is hereby constituted at Delhi to carry out investigation into the subject and submit report as soon as possible," says an order issued by Harpreet A De Sing, AI chief of flight safety department, on Monday.
The action came after the Indian Commercial Pilots' Association (ICPA, union of erstwhile Indian Airlines' pilots) had sought a probe by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) into this allegation.
