IAF receives first indigenously developed AEW&C platform

Bengaluru: India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) handed over the first of three indigenously designed airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) platforms to the Indian Air Force (IAF) on 14 February.
Integrated onto a Brazilian Embraer ERJ-145 platform by the DRDO's Centre for Airborne Systems (CABS) in Bangalore, the Netra AEW&C system provides 240-degree coverage and surveillance ranges between 250 and 375 km.

The AEW&C aircraft, handed over to the IAF on the first day of Aero India 2017 in Bangalore, has obtained its initial operational clearance and is capable of simultaneously detecting multiple targets such as missiles, fighters, and unmanned aerial vehicles, according to DRDO officials.
