Vijayawada: A speeding truck on Tuesday skidded off the road and collided with stationary liquid oxygen tanker near Gannavaram airport on Tuesday. There were no casualties.
The incident took place in the afternoon when the RTO officials were checking the tanker containing liquid oxygen.
Tension prevailed at the place for some time after clouds of gas emanated from the tanker carrying 12 tonnes of liquid oxygen. Crew of the ill-fated vehicles survived with minor injuries.
However, traffic came to a standstill on the highway after the accident due to poor visibility. Passer-by began running from the spot after seeing thick smoke from the gas leakage. Soon, fire tenders rushed to the spot from Gannavaram and cordoned off the area to contain the gas leak.
