Silchar: In a major development to the prolonged wait for night landing operations to begin at the Silchar airport, the ATR flight 9W 2878 of Jet Airways flew from the the airport for Guwahati at 8pm on Thursday, marking a historical beginning for commercial civil airlines from here.
According to Debashish Borthakur, station incharge of Jet Airways at Silchar, the flight flew with 60 passengers. “We are happy to witness this moment of history. Its a great feeling and hope that the much awaited night flight operations shall get regular in the coming days,” Borthakur told this correspondent. He informed that they took special permission for the day from the IAF to fly the aircraft at night.
On the other hand, Nand Kishore Deoli, airport director at Silchar said “we have been prepared for so long and it is good to see this development. Provided we get a proper schedule, Silchar airport is well-equipped for flight operations at night.”
