Fliers accuse airline of ruining Switzerland trip

Ahmedabad:  An alleged miscommunication by an airline caused two passengers to miss late night flight to Mumbai and ultimately dashed their dream of a seven-day trip to Switzerland. The airline changed the boarding gate at the last minute which caught Vasant Patel and Alpesh Jagani unawares on Sunday. Because they could not reach Mumbai, they missed their early morning onward flight to Dubai on Monday.

Ashattered Vasant Patel said: "I eagerly looked forward to the trip. Such opportunities are rare as we get to interact with dealers from different parts of India. However, SpiceJet changed the boarding gate at the last minute and failed to communicate it properly. We missed the flight and could not reach Mumbai to catch the connecting flight." "We kept waiting and around 10.15 pm we sensed something was amiss. We checked with the airline staff and came to know the flight had already departed. They informed us that boarding was shifted to gate 7," said Jagani.

The two have filed a complaint against the airline at the Sardarnagar police station and will also take it up with the consumer redressal forum. ASpiceJet spokesperson said, "The claim made by these passengers is absolutely baseless and misleading. SpiceJet Flight SG 638 operating Ahmedabad - Mumbai was moved to a different bay by Air Traffic Control which resulted in a change of the boarding gate. About 180 passengers moved to gate no 7 and boarded the flight."
