Chennai: Driving in and out of the airport could be hassle free soon, with Airports Authority of India (AAI) planning to introduce a new traffic pattern for cars in a month. Those driving into the airport may not have to worry about getting stuck in congestion and pay parking fees if they do not drive out in 10 minutes.
As per the new plan, the vehicles that come to domestic and international departures will enter the airport using two entries and will be routed via two new ramps that connect to the flyover in front of the terminals.
"We are planning to implement the new traffic pattern in a month. There will be meetings with the police and the CISF to familiarise them about the changes in the coming days," airport director G Chandramouli said.
The move was part of the original airport expansion plan and the ramps that link the road to the flyover in front of the terminals were ready a few months ago, but AAI wanted to wait till the metro station was completed and train services started.
