Pune airport customs officials seize gold from Dubai traveller

Customs officials at Pune airport on Sunday seized 444 grams of gold ornaments, valued at Rs 13.17 lakh, from a passenger who arrived on Air India’s Pune-Dubai flight in the afternoon. According to the officials, the man concealed the jewellery in the pockets of a pair of jeans kept in his bag.

The man, intercepted by customs officials, has been identified as Mohammed Afauque, travelling on the Air India IX212 flight from Dubai to Pune. He originally hails from Bhatkal in Karnataka, and holds a Dubai resident visa. He arrived at 2.40 pm, and was questioned by customs officials during his exit.

An official told Mirror, “Mohammed was traveling alone. When he landed, we got suspicious about his movement. Our officials immediately intercepted and started questioning him. While scanning his trolley bag, we found a pair of jeans kept in his bag. In the pockets of that pair, he had concealed gold ornaments in two packets, which the scanner detected.”
