Vijayawada: The old terminal of Vijayawada Airport is going to have all international airport terminal facilities such as immigration section, plant quarantine and others.
The old terminal, which was deserted after the domestic terminal facilities were moved to the new swanky terminal, will be open for international services starting from August 1.
The Civil Aviation Minister officially declared Vijayawada Airport as international airport with effect from August 1 when requisite facilities for international operations will be made available.
However, it takes much time for international services to start.
In all likelihood, Dubai-based Emirates airline would begin the first service to Dubai from Gannavaram. According to officials, it has already applied for the bilateral agreement for international air service with the Civil Aviation Ministry to start a service between Vijayawada and Dubai.
Meanwhile, works at the old terminal are going on at a fast pace.
