Women arrested at Mumbai airport for smuggling gold

Mumbai: Chhatrapti Shivaji International Airport custom department arrested two Indian women smuggling 1.3 kg gold valued at about Rs 40 lakh, on Tuesday night.
In a first case, Mumbai resident Tabassum Arif Shaikh arrived from Dubai by Jet Airways flight carrying assorted gold jewellery which collectively weighing 402 grams valued at Rs 12 lakh in a women inner-wear. Interestingly, on the same night another lady named Mohana James arrived from Dubai from Emirates flight with gold bars of 10 tolas, weighing 928 grams valued at Rs 27.3 lakh concealed by her inside the rectum. Further examination revealed that she was working as a caretaker for the playing children in one play school at Perambur in Tamil Nadu.

In another incident, a Kenyan national Fatma Hasan was detained with assorted gold jewellery weighing 610 grams valued Rs 18 lakh hidden in her baggage. In her statement to the Custom officials, she admitted that she is running a shop of ready-made garments in Mumbassa. In the fourth case, one Karnataka resident coming from Riyadh via Bahrain was arrested for smuggling 3 gold bars of 10 tolas, each totally weighing 349 grams which valued at Rs 10.3 lakh.
