Coimbatore: With the acquisition of 649 acres for the expansion of the Coimbatore International Airport stuck in a limbo due to price differences between the state government and the land owners, it looks like the airport authorities have decided to focus on acquisition of only 80 acres for the critical expansion of the runway.
At an exclusive interaction between Union minister of state for civil aviation Jayant Sinha and industrialists, airport director R Mahalingam said that "the master plan for acquisition of land to enable landing of wider bodied aircrafts is being speeded up and visible progress will be made in a span of six months."
The minister assured that development of terminals and runways will be taken at a record time once the acquisition is cleared. "The Union government is working towards enhancing the non-aeronautical revenue which will help in reducing the aeronautical charges enabling air travel to citizens," he said.
