Vijayawada: The runway expansion works at Gannavaram airport will be completed by this month-end, District Collector B. Lakshmikantham informed Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on his return from a quick tour of Chittoor district on Thursday evening.
Mr. Lakshmikantham said the expansion of the runway to 3360 metres was going on at a brisk pace and it would be able to accommodate wide-bodied aircraft such as Boeing. The compound wall construction was also expedited.
Earlier, Mr. Lakshmikantham held a review meeting on airport development with the officials of Revenue, Roads and Buildings and Rural Water Supply Departments and SPDCL at the NTR Veterinary University guest-house.
Nuzvid RDO Ch. Rangaiah, airport director G. Madhusudan Rao and SPDCL Superintending Engineer M. Vijaya Kumar were among those present.
