Groundwork starts on new airport terminal

Pune: Taking a leap forward in the new Pune airport terminal works, Agis India, a France-based company, has begun a topography survey of the site, senior airport officials said.
Pune airport director Ajay Kumar told TOI that the survey was expected to be completed within 10 days, following which other technical works would be taken up.
"Agis India has been appointed as consultants for the new terminal building. They will collect the required data and study it thoroughly," the official said.
The Pune airport has been in the expansion mode since earlier this year. The Airport Authority of India (AAI) officials have refrained from commenting on the proposed airport at Purandar and have maintained that they were doing their job. The new terminal building will be a major part of the airport expansion project. Around Rs 400 crore having been sanctioned for the project.
"Before the construction begins, the basic ground work needs to be taken care of. As of now, we are expecting the actual construction to start in the next 7-8 months which would take at least three years to complete," the director said.
