IAF to visit Purandar site before giving clearance

Pune: An Indian Air Force (IAF) team is expected to visit Purandar — the site of the new Pune airport — for a detailed survey before clearing the project.
Officials of the Maharashtra Airport Development Company Limited (MADC) said this after meeting IAF and ministry of defence officials in New Delhi on Wednesday. They added that the site inspection would take place in three to four weeks.
"Before doing a site survey at Purandar, IAF will seek a detailed report from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) about the different technical aspects of the project," MADC vice-chairman and managing director Suresh Kakani told TOI from Delhi.
"We approached the ministry of defence mainly because the new airport comes under the flying zone of the IAF. So, it is important that we get a green signal from them before moving forward,"another MADC official said.
The official added that following the ground work, the IAF may call the MADC for another meeting.
