Illegally smuggled gold worth Rs 50 Lakhs sized from Chhatrapati airport

Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) has held four passengers at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in a smuggling case and Gold worth Rs 50 lakhs was seized from their possession.Based on the intelligence report, the AIU officers at wee hours today intercepted Hussain Shah Kukkangai (24), Indian passport holder, who arrived from Dubai by the Emirates Airways flight number EK 508. During an enquiry at the immigration counter and later at the customs check, one solid cylindrical shaped gold piece weighing 1,165 gms, valuing Rs 34,28,697, was recovered from his possession.The gold piece was cleverly concealed in a shaft cavity of a water pump used for household purposes. Hussain works as a salesman in a mobile shop in Sharjah and is a native of Kasaragod, Kerala. He was supposed to hand over the seized consignment to a person in Bombay Hotel in Dongri, South Mumbai.Another passenger Abdulla Althaf, holding an Indian passport who arrived from Dubai by Air India Express flight number IX248, was caught with three ring shaped gold pieces collectively weighing 245 gms valued Rs 7,50,000. The gold was cleverly concealed inside the motor of the car washer.
