More areas within the Tiruchi airport to come under scanner

Tiruchi: More vital spots within the airport premises here will come under closer watch.

Apart from existing gadgets in the airport premises including the new international terminal building, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has installed 56 more surveillance cameras to bring more areas under round-the-clock observation.

These cameras have been put up at places like car parking area, city side, air side and the export cargo terminal area from where freight to different destinations are shipped every day. They have been installed and would be commissioned in two weeks once the connectivity is through, said K. Gunasekaran, Airport Director, Tiruchi.

A control room, linked to these cameras, would be set up. The Central Industrial Security Force would be man the room. The cameras have been deployed to act as manpower multiplier to augment surveillance within the airport which has been classified as “sensitive.”

The airport which witnesses heavy movement of passengers during morning and late night hours, when there is bunching of overseas flight services, is guarded by the CISF personnel round-the-clock. Vital areas including air-side, new international terminal building, old terminal building which houses the sensitive Air Traffic Control and Communication and Navigation System are guarded by these personnel.
