Hyderabad: Sleuths of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Thursday detained a woman at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) on charges of gold smuggling. She arrived from Abu Dhabi by Etihad Airlines flight.
According to a release issued by the Additional Director General M K Singh, the woman was smuggling gold concealed in the motor of a mixer-grinder which she was carrying. On examination, it was found that gold, in molten form, was poured into the mould of the motor and sealed with metal sheet to conceal the gold weighing 1.29 kilos.
DRI officials detained the passenger and seized the gold. Further investigations are underway, the release said.
