Thiruvananthpuram: Air India Express, the low’-cost arm of the national carrier Air India, is to operate 40 additional flights from Kerala and Delhi to Sharjah and back to clear the heavy rush during Onam.
The flights, which can carry 186 passengers, will be operated from August 22 to September 4 from Thiruvananthpuram, Cochin, Kozhikode and Delhi international airports, airline sources said on Monday.
Of the 40 flights to Sharjah and back, 36 will be from the airports in the State. As many as 16 flights will be from Thiruvananthapuram, six from Cochin and 14 from Kozhikode.
The AIE decision is expected to put pressure on the West Asia-based airlines that increase the fares during the season.
