Air services from Puducherry to resume from Aug 16: CM

Air services from Puducherry would resume from August 16 with the commencement of a flight from Puducherry to Hyderabad, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy said today. Talking to newspersons here, he said the revival of flights would bring more tourists to Puducherry and also boost trade. Spice Jet will fly to Hyderabad and Vijayawada in the first phase, he said, flight services to Bengaluru, Kochi,and Tirupati were in the offing. Odisha Air had come forward to operate flights from Puducherry to Salem and Bengaluru, he added. Mr Narayanasamy said, following an agreement, arrangements are being made to handle cargo at the port here. The Dredging Corporation of India was entrusted with the work to dredge three lakh cubic meters of sand from the estuary to enable the movement of cargo ships and 95 percent of the work was completed. Meanwhile, some people are trying to stall the port project cutting environmental reasons. Port and Airport operation was a must for the generation of employment opportunities, he added. The port here would ensure the development of the Union territory,the Chief Minister said. On the issue of the nominated members, the Chief Minister said that the Speaker had given his ruling and the issue is pending before the Madras high court. In this backdrop, some one talking about the formation of a government led by BJP which do not have a legislator here is ridiculous, he added. He said the BJP had utilized money and muscle power in the Gujarat Rajya Sabha election and finally 'Dharma' had won with the election of Ahamed Patel.
