Bengaluru: Helicopters may have to take a longer route to avoid testing activity at HAL airport, but this diversion and the waiting period involved could make rides costlier than initially planned
The recently-announced HeliTaxi services from the Kempegowda International Airport that are to commence services in about three months, will have to clear some hurdles to have a smooth take-off. At least if the services are to be priced at rates originally planned.
Flight testing activity at the HAL Airport could prove to be a minor hiccup for the HeliTaxi service in terms of its fares. Though not a serious threat to the services to begin between (KIA) and Electronics City and subsequently to Whitefield and HAL Airport, the daily flight testing at HAL Airport would mean that the choppers will have to take a longer route. They will have to fly eastward to reach Electronics City in order to avoid the testing activity. This will result in a rise in the fares as revealed by Group Captain KNG Nair, chairman and managing director, Thumby Aviation, which is offering the shuttle services.
The fares for a one-way trip from KIA to Electronics City is expected to be on the lines of a luxury taxi fare that is about Rs 2,500 to Rs 3,000.
However, due to the diversion and waiting period, the fares could go up.
