AAI launches specialised training for ATCOs to improve efficiency

New Delhi: As part of a move to increase efficiency of Air Traffic control officers (ATCOs) that would lead to improvement in air space management, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has decided to implement specialized training for ATCOs, termed two-stream Rating Process.

“This rating process will make man power planning better and will enhance safety. This practice is prevalent in all countries that have heavy traffic and much more complex airspace than India. This rating process will make India future ready,” said a senior AAI official, who did not want to be identified.

The proposed two-stream rating process envisages deploying Indian ATCOs in either enroute stream or terminal stream.

Under the scheme, the controllers deployed in enroute stream will be responsible for provision of Air traffic Services to the aircraft in continental/oceanic enroute Phase, the controllers in Terminal Stream will be providing air traffic services to arriving and departing flights from an airport, the official explained.
