IGI loses radio link with planes, DGCA orders probe

New Delhi: The all-pervasive network problem is now plaguing Indira Gandhi International airport. On Sunday afternoon, the air traffic control (ATC) at the airport suffered a frequency outage due to which it had trouble establishing contact with planes flying in and out of Delhi.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has sought a report from Airports Authority of India (AAI) — the parent body of ATC — on this issue to probe the cause and tackle the same at the earliest.
"There was a problem with frequency on Sunday afternoon. Most planes flying in and out at that time had trouble establishing contact with Delhi ATC. The crew of one incoming flight panicked and reported radio communication failure (RCF). All other planes flying in and out of Delhi around Sunday afternoon faced communication issues," said a senior AAI official. The problem occurred intermittently from 11am to 1.30pm on Sunday.
