Mumbai rain: 75 flights cancelled, main runway at airport to remain closed till Thursday

As many as 75 flights were cancelled at the Mumbai airport on Wednesday because of inclement weather following heavy rain, ANI reported. The weather department has predicted more rain, but allayed fears of a cyclone, said the civic body.

The airport’s main runway will remain closed till 6 am on Thursday as work on retrieving a stuck SpiceJet aircraft continued amid heavy downpour, low visibility and strong winds, according to ANI. A technical team from Air India is assisting SpiceJet in retrieving the aircraft, and clear the runway. Flights were using the secondary runway in Mumbai for arrivals and departures after the SpiceJet aircraft had skidded off the main runway on Tuesday night.
