Now, Dumna Airport safe from wildlife hazard

Dumna Airport Jabalpur is no more vulnerable to wildlife hazard. Airport administration has successfully implemented the suggestions given in Wildlife Hazard Assessment conducted by State Forest Research Institute (SFRI). The study is first of its kind in India to examine and solve the problem for wildlife strike in airport.

It may be noted that a Spice Jet aircraft was skid-off from runway after being collide with a wild boar on Dumna Airport. The incident proved a major jolt to the airport administration as several aviation companies sought implementation of safety parameters for operation of their flights.

Dumna Airport Jabalpur, Director, Ramtanu Saha, while talking to ‘The Hitavada’, informed that they have successfully executed the recommendations of study conducted by team of wildlife experts from SFRI. Around 15-16 cages have been installed at airport premises to capture mammals while LPG operated bird scaring devices are being operational on the runway to avoid existence of birds. Besides this, continuous monitoring of wild animals is being carried out through white flash and infrared cameras to evade any untoward incident. He termed the airport as safest airport in terms of wildlife strike.
