4.24L passengers travelled from Surat airport in 1 yr

Surat: The passenger traffic at the Surat airport has witnessed a phenomenal growth with around 4.24 lakh passengers travelling to various domestic destinations between October 2016 to September 2017.
Passenger traffic in the month of September registered an increase of 295% with around 60,475 more passengers travelling to various destinations compared to previous year. As against 65,649 passengers between April-August-2016, 2,58,847 travelled during the same period this year.
Passengers traffic from the airport is continuously on the rise with the launch of new flights by Spice Jet in March 2017. From 23,367 passengers in March, the traffic grew to 50,625 passengers in June and 62,800 in July, achieving growth ranging from 100% to 300% compared to the same months in previous year. In first six months in 2017-18, around 3.19 lakh lakh passengers travelled to various destinations compared to 1.68 lakh passenger traveling in the whole year in 2016. The passenger traffic is likely to cross six lakh by December 2017.
At present, the airport is has around 18 daily flights to various destinations including Delhi, Jaipur, Patna, Kolkata, Mumbai, Goa, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Bhavnagar, Rajkot etc. being operated by Spice Jet, Air India and Ventura Airconnect respectively.
