AI flight in row over not serving eatables

New Delhi: An Air India Express flight from Delhi to Madurai did not serve eatables, surprising passengers on board, before returning to Delhi after a snag. The airline has denied that it refused to serve eatables.
Biju Janata Dal MP Bhartruhari Mahtab said the Air India Express, the low cost arm of AI, refused to serve eatables on its Delhi-Madurai flight of Monday. The MP from Cuttack was on the flight and said the crew announced in Delhi that no food will be served on the over three-hour-long flight. "One passenger asked if they will serve any tea or coffee, and the crew said no to that also," Mahtab said.
The management of AI Express denied the charge of refusing to serve snacks or beverages, though on Monday's flight nothing was served as the plane took off and then returned to Delhi in about an hour. "On Monday's Delhi-Madurai flight no announcement was made about non-service of eatables. The plane took off and its weather radar developed a snag. Due to this, the pilot decided to return to Delhi," said AI Express sources. "Since all this, take off and then decision to return, happened fairly quickly during which the seat belt sign remained on, the crew may have had to refuse service to passengers who may have asked for something. Otherwise, the service would have taken place," an airline source added.
