Chandigarh International Airport may soon be declared silent

Chandigarh International Airport may soon join the list of airports in the country that have been declared silent airports. The authorities at Chandigarh International Airport Limited (CHIAL) are planning to make the airport announcement-free and put an end to routine flight announcements at the facility.
CHAIL Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sunil Dutt told Chandigarh Newsline on Saturday that a large number of flight display systems would be installed at the airport before the decision would be taken. “We are planning to put an end to the regular flight announcements at the airport and make it announcement free,” he said. Dutt, however, said paging announcements would be made near the boarding gate for the passengers. Paging announcements are meant to call the last remaining passengers of the flight.
Several airports in the country, including Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai, have already been declared silent as there are no announcements for boarding. The Pune airport authorities, too, have sent a proposal to the Airports Authority of India’s (AAI) western region headquarters in Mumbai to make the airport silent.
